WIDA Testing – In February or March your child will take the WIDA Access for ELLs assessment. This test assesses their English language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students’ scores on the WIDA test help their EL teachers plan students’ supports for next year and determine when they are ready to exit the EL program. See the WIDA parent handout (in English, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean) for more information. (Please let your child’s EL teacher know if you would like a copy in another language.)
Early Childhood Program Enrollment – Hudsonville offers many early childhood programs to benefit your children birth to age 5, including preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Some programs are free or reduced-cost for families that qualify. Ask your child’s EL teacher for more information!
Teachers:
If you are looking for diverse texts, the Global Storybooks Portal offers multicultural books in dozens of different languages. You can translate the text between English and another language within each page of the book. The audio function allows you to hear the book read in another language.
This could be a great way to celebrate your EL students’ native languages in your classrooms and get students excited about language learning!
