Community Resources

Parents:

We hope your students have had a wonderful start to their school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s EL teacher about any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.

Here are some resources that may be helpful as we begin this new school year:

  • Free and reduced cost lunch application (you can also ask for a paper copy from the office at your child’s school; please contact an EL teacher if you would like a copy in another language)
    • *Please note that you need to reapply for the national school lunch program every year
  • Hand2Hand – this free program provides meals to students every weekend; you can get an application for this from the office at your child’s school
  • Community resources – this document provides helpful resources in a wide variety of areas, such as healthcare, education, food, housing, and legal support

Teachers:

Here is an article about a research study highlighting the benefits of shared reading for English Learners.

Looking for professional development opportunities this year? Be sure to check out the OAISD/KISD’s English Learner PD calendar for several local options.
