WIDA Testing Begins

Parents:

Last week WIDA testing officially began. Every February/March English Learners in grades K-12 take the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 test. This assesses students’ English listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiencies. We use these scores to monitor students’ progress, plan their EL services, and determine when students have the adequate proficiency needed to exit the EL program.

For more information about WIDA ACCESS, please see the following parent handout (Arabic, Spanish, and Vietnamese versions available).

On the days that students test, it is very important that they get enough sleep and eat a good breakfast and lunch so that they can do their best on the assessment. Please contact your child’s EL teacher with any questions about WIDA ACCESS or to find out when your child will be testing.

Teachers:

Here is a great article from Education Week about five quick-to-implement ways to make your EL students more at ease and confident in your classrooms.
